Biomedicine in Maine is on the cusp of an exciting growth phase. Scientists are incubating new ideas, and institutions are investing in resources and building new partnerships to advance human health. As we continue to move forward together, we want to be creative and strategic about where the state is going in biomedicine, innovation and technology.

Our studies will be the first to examine cell type-specific rhythms in human striatum, how they are altered in alcohol use disorder (AUD), and their contribution to excessive alcohol consumption. These studies are central to understanding the mechanisms underlying circadian disruptions in AUD and may result in the discovery of novel therapeutic targets and/or time-dependent strategies for future treatments.
